R2R Travel Ideas
We recommend you base yourself in Cairns or Palm Cove for Wednesday & Thursday evenings and then relocate to Port Douglas for Friday and Saturday evenings (and Sunday evening if you're staying to play!).
This will enable easy transfer to the start and finish of each stage and on the last day you can then roll back to your accommodation after the celebrations!!
Camping / Motor Home
For riders and their travel parties wishing to either camp or motor home throughout the event there are many campsites available within close proximity to each days start / finish venue.
Suggested options include;
- Day 1 – Cairns (Cairns South / Cairns Holiday Park).
- Day 2 – Davies Creek (Lower Davies Creek, Upper Davies Creek) / Mareeba (Ringers Rest RV Park)
- Day 3 – Mareeba (Ringers Rest RV Park) / Mt Molloy (Rifle Creek, Wetherby Station)
- Day 4 – Mareeba (Ringers Rest RV Park) / Mt Molloy (Rifle Creek, Wetherby Station) Port Douglas
Emerald Escape
Emerald Escape Camping is owned and operated by Kanjini Co-Op, a sustainable rural cooperative working to create an intentional community. They have created 6 camp sites spread over 2800 acres situated between Davies Creek Falls and Emerald Falls (Stage 2) giving you plenty of space and privacy and an amazing landscape to explore. Wetherby Station
Wetherby Station provides camp sites at the rate of $30 per vehicle per night right near the homestead along with access to hot showers and toilets. For those who want a cold swim after the ride, Rifle Creek is close by. Or warm up in the evenings and share your war stories around the camp fire circle. Booking is best made phoning John in the evening on 07 4094 1125.

Hotel / Apartment
Tropical North Queensland offers a huge range of hotel and apartment accommodation options for visitors.
If this fits your preference our recommendation is to base yourself in Cairns or Palm Cove for Days 1 and 2 (travel time to Smithfield is approximately 10 minutes and about 45 minutes to Davies Creek).
After Day 2 relocating to Port Douglas for Days 3 and 4 will enable another easy transfer to the start for both days and an easy roll back to your accommodation at the end of the Day 4 celebrations!
