Welcome to Reef to Reef 2019

It is my pleasure to welcome you back to Tropical North Queensland for Reef to Reef – Australia’s newest MTB stage race.

Following a successful inaugural event in 2018, Reef to Reef promises another stunning experience of this region’s iconic landscapes starting on the reef-fringed coastline before heading inland across tablelands, hinterland, farm land, MTB parks and tropical rainforest. Each of the four days has its own unique terrain and character to challenge and reward riders.

The Queensland Government is proud to support Reef to Reef through Tourism and Events Queensland’s Major Events Program which brings visitors to the region, supports tourism jobs and contributes to the state’s It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar which will generate $800 million for Queensland’s economy in 2019.

Congratulations to the event organisers, volunteers, and all of those who are involved in delivering the event, and best of luck to all competitors.

If you are visiting Tropical North Queensland for the event, ensure you make time to explore its natural beauty and diverse tourism experiences – from Australia’s greatest natural wonder, the Great Barrier Reef, to the ancient beauty of the Daintree and a stunning coastline and mainland boasting lush hinterland and the legendary of hospitality of North Queensland’s locals.

On behalf of Cairns Regional Council and the Cairns community, welcome to the competitors, officials and supporters to Cairns – for the second Reef to Reef event.

For many competitors this will not be your first trip to our tropical city to compete in this spectacular event - welcome back. To all the new participants and supporters, congratulations on taking part. Cairns is proud to host this truly international sporting event and we are eager to showcase our region’s attractions and hospitality.

Our region is home to mountain biking in Australia, having hosted two World Championships at the fantastic Smithfield Conservation Park.

Events such as this also allow locals to compete against their idols, with many residents choosing to jump on the bike for the iconic Triple-R section of the race. The Reef to Reef may be one of the newest staged mountain bike events in Australia, however it has quickly cemented its place as a must-do on the circuit.

On behalf of the people of Cairns I wish all competitors successful racing over the four days of the event and I hope that you get to take in some of the fantastic scenery on offer along the way.

Bob Manning

Mayor, Cairns Regional Council
